This has got to be the single most quoted scripture in the Christian religion. Even if one does not personally believe that God so loved the world, does make the word of God of none effect. However, the example that we as Christians are to live or the lack thereof can cause sinners to remain in unbelief.
This scripture is actually so popular that even the sinners more than likely know how to quote it. There is a reason why this scripture is so commonly used among the saints especially as a means of sinner conversion. This verse depicts the main reason why we accept Christ to begin with.
As Christians we can not allow these words to fall on fallow ground and deaf ears. And this is exactly why we must live like we believe it ourselves. We tell others that God so loved the world but we walk around with not even a smile on our face to represent that love in us. Not acceptable!
All too often this, just like so many other scriptures, have become humdrum and often invalid when the personal trials and tribulations arise. When the divers temptations come your way and rest assure, they will, you’d better know that God so loves you.
Now lets take the opportunity to thoroughly examine this scripture so that it can be fully understood just how powerful that it really is. Because sometimes we take these well known scriptures and just make them into clichés, hence completely diminishing the true purpose and intent.
#1 God so loved the world: “The world” meaning “Humanity,” not what we do or what we build, but our souls/life. God loves us humans in spite of us as a whole not loving him back. It can easily be observed that we don’t even love each other, much less God. So as a result of God loving mankind he wanted to make a way for us to live above sin
#2 He gave his only begotten Son: The single sacrifice to end all sacrifices! God the Father gave his only begotten Son to die for and be a propitiation for all of humanities sins. What’s so important about this is that there literally is no other name by which any of us can be saved….please remember that. God gave his only begotten son, who knew that the cost would be great, still died on the cross selflessly. If that’s not important, then I don’t know what is.
#3 Whosoever believeth in him should not perish: Now this is where it gets really important because now there is an accountability that we have been presented with. We’ve seen the love of God the Father and the son, now we must give a proper response to that said love. The scripture notes that we must believe in him (Jesus) and the reason why he died for us (sins). Without this belief….we will perish and there can be no doubts about this. So if we don’t live above sin as Christians (example of the believer) then where shall the ungodly appear?
#4 Everlasting life: This is the part that should open every eye, because aside from accepting Jesus, there is not other means for obtaining eternal/everlasting life. As they say, “The buck stops here!” If you are a believer in Christ, heaven is the ultimate goal. If you give up your Christianity, then you need to also realize that you have forfeited any opportunity to life everlasting. Everlasting life is what I am striving for…are you?
